Betsy Greene coordinated and delivered multiple cases of hand sanitizer from the ACBS “Bend the Curve” project to Native American communities across Arizona. The “Bend the Curve” project produced hand sanitizer for Arizona health care workers amid the COVID-19 pandemic when hand sanitizer was scarce to impossible to obtain. The project, run by staff and students from the Vedantam/Viswanathan Labs, began with producing just 100 bottles of sanitizer in March 2020 and was able to scale their production to more than 30,000 bottles over the summer of 2020.

Hand sanitizer was delivered to the Federally-Recognized Tribes Extension Program (FRTEP) agents including Nathan Notah and Grey Farrell to disperse in the Navajo tribal community, Juan Arias for the San Carlos Apache Tribe, Elisabeth Alden for the Hualapai Tribe, and Susan Sekaquaptewa for the Hopi Tribe.  Some of the organizations who received hand sanitizer through the FRTEP agents included the Hopi Cancer Support Center, Carrie NDC Vice President (Apache community), Marcella James NDC non-profit (San Carlos community), and 4H families in the Apache community.
