Progress calls for pause

A transformational renovation of the Food Product & Safety Laboratory will position the facility as a state-of-the-art industry leader

The state legislature graciously approved the University of Arizona’s request for $10.9 million to renovate and update the Food Products and Safety Lab (FPSL) at the Campus Agricultural Center in Tucson.

This is an important investment in a facility that has become a cornerstone of our animal sciences teaching, research, and Extension missions. The investment will also ensure it is positioned to serve the needs of Arizona’s livestock industries well into the future.

We are currently working with the University’s Planning, Design, and Construction Office to finalize construction vendor contracts, as well as gathering expert input to inform our design and planning phase.

As we work to solidify design and construction plans, we have temporarily paused processing operations at the facility.

We recognize the inconvenience this temporary pause in processing may present but assure you that this will allow us to emerge with a state-of-the-art Food Products and Safety Laboratory that is better equipped to serve the University of Arizona’s land-grant mission and support Arizona’s livestock producers’ needs.
