Microbiology

We study microbial communities in a variety of environments to understand their impact on food safety, animal production and human health.

Our microbial research spans an array of disciplines, including genomics, genetics, proteomics, epidemiology, immunobiology and pathology. Our faculty, staff and students aim to reduce the incidence of foodborne and infectious diseases, extend the shelf life of foods through the manipulation of microbial populations, and understand how gut microbiota influence human health.
